Message From The Junior Worlds Joint Steering Committee

We have now concluded the final report on the 4th FAI World Junior Gliding Championships held at the Soaring Centre, Husbands Bosworth, in August 2005. We are delighted to report that not only was the event a huge international success, but also a financially sound one, thanks to the huge contribution made by everybody involved: UK Sport, sponsors, partners, our Competition Team and helpers.

We now have a breakdown of the website data, and the site achieved over 6 million hits, 5 million in August during the event. This demonstrates the massive interest in international competitive gliding both in the UK and overseas.

The British Junior team won the top three medals in the Standard Class, demonstrating the strength of competitive gliding at present in the UK and we hope that we can continue to build on this strength.

All of the overseas competitors expressed their pleasure at competing in such a well run, professional and friendly competition and the International stewards gave a positive report on the whole event.

Many guests attended the corporate hospitality hosted by the BGA during the event. They were able to enjoy soaring flights thanks to the help of volunteers from both the BGA and Soaring Centre. Our congratulations to all involved on the success of these corporate hospitality days in promoting the sport of gliding.

Thank you all once again for your support. We would not have achieved this success without your help and we trust that you enjoyed and gained a greater insight into competitive gliding through your involvement with the Championships.

Andy Davis,
Chairman,
Junior Worlds Joint Steering Committee.

Prize giving is over, and with it the 4th FAI Junior World Gliding Championships. We got 9 days flying in a lot of different types of conditions found in the UK. Everyone seemed to have fun. In excess of 130,000Km were flown, 512 competitors started and 442 crossed the finish line.

Bit of a late start today after an extensive end of competition party last night. The evening was kicked into gear by a formation "streak" by the Finnish team. The closing ceremony is due to start at 11:00am followed by a trailer race to Dover - the police can award the points for that one. We will put up photos of the ceremony later. Anyone that wants to join us for the ceremony is welcome, I have been assured that it will be reasonably short and sweet.

Many congratulations to the winners!

As the conditions have not improved, it has been decided to cancel both classes tasks today. The director would like to thank everyone for their patience. Party night tonight, so hopefully this will be fun. Prize giving tomorrow with be at 1100.
